Vitex and pregnancy

I am 4 weeks pregnancy and have PCOS. My herbalist has prescribed me 5 drops of Vitex (3 x per day). She says that this will help keep up my progesterone levels. I had slowed down taking my herbs before I got pregnant because my cycle had begun to regulate due to a routine yoga program. I feel iffy about taking anything that will mess with my hormones, but want to be open to it because of my condition. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

hmmm, I am not sure about the pregnancy thing so maybe should shut up., but the topic is of interest to me since I wokr with Western hebrbs, had a hsitoric fertility problem, and manage a discussion gorup for women who are TTC without medical intervention.

I take Vitex daily nonpregnant (I'm in my early fifties, still having pretty regular ovulatory cycles, was starting to get uncomfortable premenstrually about 5 or 6 years a few years ago, and started taking vitex and black cohosh twice daily to help mllow that out. it seems t make a difference.)

the dosage you mention of vitex sounds prety small to me. I donpt know whether low progesterone during pregnancy is one oyour issues (it;s a cause of threateded or actual miscarraige for some women i;ve known) so itmight make sense. my wn experience is that the vitex tincture is notas effective, at elast for me, as the freezedried herb/fruit capsules (try Oregon;s Wild Harvest..for some reason, Eclectic institute discontinued their vtex, which they had labeled y the English common name "chaste tree berry")

anyway, it sound as if you have possibly found a way to maintain good hormonelvels through yoga and othr practices and may or may not need the herbal supplement. if yo start having ANY leeding at all while pregnant, i;d certainly consider trying the vitex, bu maybe you don't need it. you were obviousl producing nough progesterone to ovulte and get pregnant in the first place, and by the time your pregnancy is well established the placenta will take over in manufacturing progesterone and other necessary hormones.

best wishes to ou for a healty and joyous pregnancy and birth!
