I have experimented a lot with herbs for internal issues, but never really experienced much with herbal skin cures. What does everyone like to use?
I have this issue on my face in which the skin is discoloured. It gets redder in the cold and sometimes dry and flaky. I feel like I've tried everything, one dr prescriped cortisone, I have put vitamin e oil on it and also a salve made of comfrey, arnica, st johns wort and calendula. I have also tried going on a gluten free diet (which helped anxiety but not the skin so I have chosen to stay on the diet). Any help would be greatly appritiated.

Re: Herbal Skin
Sat, March 14, 2009 - 9:00 AMit sounds like actinic keratosis, a form of skin damage from the sun. i have it. strong comfrey ointment seems to help, and you might want to try an aroma therapy blend with to drops each of carrot seed oil, rose seed oil, frankincense oil,and helichrysum oil (i think that's what it;s called, can;t find it or the reference book right now) to a fluid ounce of olive or coconut oil, or a blend of them - you can also try adding jojoba oil or shea buttter as the carriers. this hasn't totally reversed my own skin damage but it;s kept it from getting much worse. aloe vera gel is soothing but probably doesn't go deep enough to regranulate healthy tissue. you can add lavendar, myrrh, and other skin-soothing essential oils to the blend. be careul to dilute tem well in our carrier oil, and avoid relly astringent oils such as pine and mints. hope this helps. I;ve also found that sun damaged skin tends to look worst in fluorescent light and better in natural sunlight. -

Wed, March 18, 2009 - 11:56 AMhave you tried Kukui nut oil? It is good for skin conditions and is high in vitamin a and e. it absorbs really fast so it won't leave your face greasy and it is also a natural sunscreen...mainly what i use it for.
