The allergy season is upon us here, with pollen flying around and bringing on flulike symptoms. My Allergy Season Yogi Tea is finished and I can't even remember what was inside that kept my sinuses open. Does anyone have any suggestions for herb teas to drink in this case?

A chinese patent recipe for clearing the sinus and keeping it uninfected, (i had those allergies myself years ago) is called: 'Pe Min Kan Wan'.
40-50% of the formula is based on magnolia buds and burrweed (cang er zi). Ephedra- if balanced with harmonizing herbs like licorice, and should never be more than 10-15% content to the other ingredients.

to clarify, the formula i mentioned DOES NOT have ephedra in it. I was also speaking about ephedra in general, sorry for the confusion.

i like elderberry combined with osha root. Burdock seed, and korean catnip (schizonepta tenufolium). Schizandra berry, Siberian Burrweed.
Ephedra, used judiciously and in low amounts.

Lots of good herbs for allergies, but first a few diet notes. Becoming aware of foods that may trigger you can be very helpful. Food sensitivities can "prime" the immune system and make it a big trigger happy. Number one on the list is dairy, but also be aware that wheat, corn, soy and eggs could cause some reaction. All depends on the individual. Just cutting out dairy helps a lot of people.

Eating *local* raw honey before the start of allergy season, and especially local pollen (starting with very small amounts to make sure there's no reaction - 1/4 teaspoon to start) can be very useful for a couple weeks before allergy season.

Ah, but you're already in allergy season! You must live further south than me!! I like tincture of fresh Nettles, tincture of common Ragweed (yes, the pollen causes allergies but the leaf cures them), and of course Eyebright. Throw in some Bayberry if there's a lot of congestion.

That should be a good start.

"Just cutting out dairy helps a lot of people"

My experience is that cutting out pasteurized dairy may reduce a reaction. But incorprating raw dairy can actually strengthen the immune system. For more information and to look for a source of raw dairy in your area see www.realmilk.com
Many times with food it is not the food, but the way it is processed and pasteurized, homogenized dairy is really hard on the body.
