So, I have a bad case of the Hives, probably from stress and combination of things. After some research it is clear that I have physical form which is activated by the slightest change in temperature (hot or cold), and also were my clothing or perspiration irritates the skin. I am taking Prenizone after a visit to emergency, but it really isn't working well . . . antihistamines (lotions and pills) are working the best . . . at this point I have eliminated all questionable drugs, foods, stressers, etc. with little affect on the breakouts . . . when I finish the steroids in 2-3 days I want to switch back to more holistic methods of treatment . . . any suggestions?

    I can't believe we missed this post! I have had very good luck with the following: Plantain (drink it and bathe in it if you have it available, fresh or tincture is best). You can also bathe in soothing herbs like oatstraw (or even oats) and comfrey, and drinking those may not be a bad idea either! As a side note, Comfrey Leaf is noted by the FDA to be bad for our livers, but they didn't test Comfrey - they tested chemicals derived from it - the amounts used would be impossible (like eating a barrel of comfrey a day!) so don't worry about internal use. Comfrey root is stronger than the leaf so use accordingly. Drinking Red Clover tea can help clean up the blood as well.

    Since it has been awhile now, you may also just want to clear out your liver to prevent any issues later - so try Turmeric, Burdock, Yellow Dock, Milk Thistle Seeds and Dandelion Root. To make sure colon is clear to allow toxins out that way (instead of your skin) - add Fennel and a small amount of Cascara Sagrada if you have it - and kidney can be cleared with eating parsley and/or dandelion leaves/flowers or adding a small amount of Juniper berries to your mix. You can also use Oregon Grape Root or Barberry Bark if you have it available. Mix the powder in raw honey and take about a half teaspoon two or three times a day - you can take it all winter and spring to be on the safe side! This should also clear out the drug residues in the system - drink plenty of distilled or spring water (and if distilled makes you nervous about losing minerals, drink tea or vinegar tincture with mineral-rich herbs: alfalfa, comfrey, nettle, red raspberry, horsetail, oatstraw, dandelion - and small amount of lobelia). Tell us how it goes!

      Also.. lots of chickweed... Chickweed will help with the itching.. Plantago major is excellent as well. ElvenPath is on the right track as far as recommendations go..

      Make sure you aren't allergic to any of the herbs you use to clear up the hives too.. You might want to be tested to find out more as to the root cause of the hives.

      I just got over a bout of them myself and almost ended up in the emergency room.. Thankfully I have all the stuff to prevent respiratory shutdown.. I used a ton of chickweed salve tho..LOL it really helped..;
