severe Intestinal/stomach "flu"

topic posted Fri, April 4, 2008 - 6:15 PM by  all-i
aloha great people,

I am just now recovering from nearly five days of being severely ill with what I originally thought was food poisoning. Turns out that something very similar to what I've had has been going around, so perhaps it wasn't something I picked up from not washing a strawberry. Be aware, friends, and wash your hands more than normal. It's a nasty one...

Anywho, I basically went for 3 days without eating anything but a pear and a piece of toast and a lot of water. My stomach is obviously pretty tender and I'm wondering if any of you have experience in restoring digestive balance with herbs. I am doing acidopholis but it seems like there is another medicine from the plant world that my body is asking for. Anyone have any ideas?

I think I will start with a huuuuuge pot of nettle tea.

happy spring to y'all...

I have found slippery elm bark to be useful, soothing and nutritive for almost any digestive issue. I was taught, don't try to make tea out of it, as you will think you are trying to drink some bodily fluid (eww!). Instead, make some oatmeal or other hot cereal and stir some in.

I hope you feel better soon!

Joy Gardner had a combo of goldfden seal(I'dsubstitute oregon grape root),slipperyelm, cinnamon, and a pinch of cayenne.pack linto capsules or droponthe backof your tongue and wash down with water.

Ialsolike peppermint and/orginger tea for anything gastric

get some 'curing pills', called 'Po Chai Pills" they are made exactly for your problem. most good co-ops will have them. any asian area does in general, like groceries and such.

thank you for all of your suggestions! I got myself a whole bunch of nettles and combined those with a bit of peppermint, burdock root, dandelion root, licorice root and lavender buds and have been drinking that tea twice daily. It seems to be amazingly nourishing and healing. The applesauce and yogurt are of course staples and I have done a bit of the slippery elm as well, though it is my friend who has IBS who has really had some results with the Slippery Elm. He says thank you as well!

I have taken the curing pills many times and strangely they always seem to upset my stomach more than they cure. I don't know why, could just be my body chemistry. I think with most intestinal situations like this is seems like the best thing to do is allow whatever the irritant is to pass through and continue to support and nourish the body as it detoxifies. On a bit of a different note, this has been one of the most intense spiritual cleanses I have ever experienced in my life. I have had some very vivid visions and have made some major shifts in my life path in a very short time span as a result of being so ill. I guess it just goes to show that our bodies are truly wise and are always giving us pieces of wisdom, even if we don't always want to listen =)

          so much love to all,
          ~AiO~
