Here's one website..

http://www.susunweed.com/herbal_ezine/May04/healingwise.htm

*************************************************************************************************************

Put the herbs into a large jar and pour in a mixture of 25% alcohol and 75% water.

Step
2
Seal the jar and store it in a cool place for two weeks. Shake the jar occasionally during this period.

Step
3
Place a piece of cheesecloth over a bowl, jar, or jug. Pour the herbal mixture through the cloth into the bowl. When your finished pouring the mixture out of the jar, wrap the herbs in the cheesecloth and give them a few last squeezes to get all the liquid out.

Step
4
Pour the strained liquid into your tincture bottle and store it in a cool dry place.
*********************************************************************************************

I recommend using only vodka as it has no impurities where as many other types of alcohol does and will mix into the tinctures.. Also remember that if the bottle says 40 proof.. that means that it is 20% alcohol by volume and 20% water.

I also recommend picking the herbs that are to be used in the tincture on the full moon, and placing them directly into the alcohol immediately.

I recommend masserating a tincture from one new moon past the next new moon and remove the plant extract on the full moon and add more plant (same plant) to the remainder of the tincture again and letting it masserate once more.. That way you have a good strong medicine..

Each plant or compound mixture of plants (compound consists of 2 or more plants) has different properties and is designed for different systems of the body...

My first and foremost recommendation is to study.. get books on the subject, read thoroughly, absorb all the info you can about it so that you become well educated, or go to a credited school if you can afford one, find a herbalist who is willing to teach you and study under them. But keep in mind that not all herbalist are good, they are still human and prone to mistakes like everyone else..

we have over 30,000 medicinal plants that are known and God only knows how many more that are not known or have already been irradiated.. We use only a small percentage of this vast plant medicine available to us.. so that is why I encourage strongly to educate yourself on what herbology is all about.

There are many look alike plants and to pick the wrong one can be a one time shot.. it can kill you. If you go out to pick cow parsnip and get water hemlock instead, well there's no time for the hospital..

There are also some plants that are sucker plants. They grow on the roots of other host plant. If they grow on a non poisonous plant, then its a good plant to pick.. however some plants grow on poisonous plants as hosts as well and can be as far as 4 feet or more from their host so it gives the illusion that they are a stand alone plant when in actuality they are not.
