Hi, Well heres a way the ancient Egyptians use to wake themselves up when they where in the dream state. In your day to day life every single time you walk through a doorway touch the side of the doorway and ask yourself "Am I Dreaming?" Do this every day and you will find when u are in your dreams and you walk through a doorway you will ask yourself this same question ":Am I dreaming?" YES! then you wake up in your dream. Have Fun :)
***Don't ever doubt yourself in a dream either. Say your flying right, don't let your mind come in and say wait you can't fly then you will fall, just allow things like that to happen don't question them while in the dream state.

|:|||: the shaman find dedicated plant in dreamtime.

You are beautiful ( not everybody is ), young and happy. That is a good start. You will have nice dreams. Enter them forever.

We are doing something exceptions. Dream generator, takes snapshots every 10 seconds. Could be programmed to actually deliver whole movie, but for now this is very advanced. Once we saw this Popeye cartoon, he was projecting his dream onto a wall. We did it? Bogeyman Initiation is initiating itself. Not only we have dream company ( people don't have company on the physical plane, what of astral dimensions ! ).

Your dreams come true and also fun. Nothing is impossible, but first you have to be happy. Sad people are not initiated, are to be avoided.
Since ugly people are usually a nightmare, avoid them. We chose to be extremely beautiful as we were born. No one worships ugly gods ( or do they, ha!? ).

i really need to get some veggie capsules and put my calea in that! i had the tea 3 nights in a row, one of the most disgusting tastes i've encountered! i almost puked trying to drink it the second and third night when i made it strong! well, it definately made my dreams more interesting, vivid and memorable, but i did not experience lucidity. i noticed that in the morning before getting out of bed, i was drifting in and out of dream and waking states. this is certainly an interesting herb and i will be drinking some tea and vaporising it before bed. i understand that smoking it before bed while having the tea in your belly makes things MUCH more interesting, and more likely lucid.

i have recently read some interesting information about vitamin B6 being a serious dream enhancer. i'm going to get some from the drug store soon and try it out. just google for 'b6 dreams' and you'll have plenty of reports and information.

Peace and Lucidity!

All the time! The first bit you described sounds like hypnagogy, the stage where your brain is just about to dip into REM. You might try giving the hand trick a try during that stage, or try and prepare yourself to stay in a lucid state as you go into your dream. As far as waking up, that happens a lot. For me, looking at my hands has been the best way to "anchor" myself into the dream without waking.

since reading this thread I've been trying lucid dreaming myself. I've tried to help the process by putting lemon verbena lotion on, looking at my hands for a few minutes, then going to bed. The results have been wierd! First of all, just the falling asleep part has been really wierd. Not like anything I"ve ever experienced before. It's hard to describe ... I sort of start dreaming and falling asleep at the same time, but it's like I'm both dreaming and asleep before I'm actually ... asleep. Like there's two different consciousnesses going on at the same time or something. It's very hard to describe. Like I KNOW I'm falling asleep as I'm doing it ... and I just immediately am dreaming the most intense dreams ... nothing like my normal sleep. but there's really only been one time so far that I knew I was dreaming in the dream. I started talking to myself out loud in the dream, telling myself that I was dreaming. Unfortunately, that woke me up. the whole thing is a pretty wierd experience. Anyone else had a similar one??

Vanilla flower essence is great for promoting lucid dreams, as well as several orchids. Also, frankincense essential oil (diluted in olive, grapeseed or avocado oil, about 3 drops per ounce) rubbed into pulse points and the bases of your feet. Be sure to do it immediately before going to bed, it's very deeply relaxing and may knock you out!

Looking at my hands is what's worked best for me, it's kinda like this: when you realize you're dreaming, look at your hands, feet or some other part of your body. Within a couple seconds, they start to distort. Immediately, look at any nearby object (a chair, tree, or whatever you see around you) and then back at your body. Do this a few times until you're "anchored" in your dream and then go!

When I was a child I had lucid dreams almost every night for many years, following my moms advice (who was reading Carlos Castaneda’s books) I successfully remembered to look at my hands, Sleeping was the most exiting thing in my life during those years and I looked forward to sleeping every night. The lucid dreams mostly went away through my teenage years, and now I remember my dreams almost every night but fail to have the full lucid experience. My dreams went away during my pot smoking and alcohol drinking years, but that was short lived and a long time ago during my teenage years. A few things that I realized during my childhood lucid dreaming years was 1) when I came more conscious and “lucid” during the dream state I would simultaneously become more conscious of my memories of the dreams during the waking state. 2) I had an over active imagination and this would express itself in the dream state.
In yogic philosophy there is a state of consciousness called turia, where the vials between states of consciousness (awake, dream, and deep sleep) are gone. I know that during meditation I can easily remember my dreams.

While many of the herbs listed can be helpful, I agree that training the awareness is one of the most important aspects to achieving lucid dreaming. Any excercises which require a conscious effort or focus continued into the sleep stages can be effective.

My personal favorite for years has been the "61 points of relaxation". It may take a little while to learn to do it smoothly and continuosly but over time the experience deepens with practice. Its also a beneficial excercise for energy workers.
http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10742

Similar to the concept of asking yourself questions upon sleep, I have also found similar repetative mental suggestion (programming) extremely useful. Use as you would self-hypnosis. Just repeat to yourself whatever it is you desire, keep it simple, and repeat until you fall asleep. Ex. "I will awaken in the morning and feel completely refreshed." (Good for late nights/less sleep)

A little research on Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep) may also be interesting and rewarding.

*Mugwort can be useful in assisting focus or sense of purpose. Calea can enhance the richness/vivid reality of dreaming.
I don't recommend datura for this purpose, and second the word of caution regarding use of this herb.
Flavorful nerve calming/relaxation herbs such as peppermint, lemon balm, chamomile, etc. can be added to "dream teas" to make bitter tasting herbs more pleasant.

Good luck!

I just want to add:

mugwort can be very mild, but also Very strong.

I think the reason it is controlled some places, is that it has mild phsycoactive properties.

I found myself feeling quite trippy after having a beer post mugwort tea.

Mind you, I am very sensitive, I just want to excercise caution when recommending strong herbs.

I fully reccomend the dream journal too..

Writing it down the second you wake, makes a huge difference in recall.

Reading over it, and spending time waking thinking about dreaming helps me too..

I have found beautiful inspiration from mugwort tea.

Even greater strength from the herb drying next to my bed combined with tea before bed.

I love the taste of it, but its really bitter, I usually blend it with something strong and yummy like mint, or licorice root, and/or honey.

I have also had very vivid dreams after taking 5HTP.
This is hydrotriptophan(triptophan being the chemical in turkey that makes us sleepy)

I think 5HTP is made from the seed of an african plant called griffonia .

It is not something to be taken all the time, but has antidepressant qualities, and helps one ease into sleep.
I have had fantastic dream recall, and big dreams with this.

I am canandian, and I am not sure about american law concerning this product.

Mugwort surprisingly is a controlled substance in some states of Australia.

That is my fave dream herb, also a beautiful heb for women.

I recently purchased some Vervain (Verbena officialis). It arrived as 16 ounces of powder -- looks a bit like the spices in my grandmother's spice rack.

The card that came with it says:

"This ancient plant has been used in herbal medicine to treat nervous problems and insomnia. It was also considered an herb of inspiration and has long been regarded as a powerful ally of poets and writers. More recently, the Pawnee Indians used vervain to improve their dreaming, and is often referred to as the North American version of Calea Zacatechichi. "

Which all sounds awesome to me (I'm a poet and writer) -- but how to use this stuff is actually not noted. Maybe I'm supposed to put it under my pillow or use it as a spice in apple pie. Isn't anyone familiar with the logistics of using Vervain -- or Calea Zacatechichi for that matter -- powder?

Thanks for ANY input!

One workshop I sat in on used flower or herbal essences, and I don't mean the herb juice, but simply having the flower near enough to your bed that you experience it by smell as you sleep. Different herbs/flowers= different dreams. I can't remember the guy's name right now. I'll try to look him up.

All the info on journals/triggers is similar to what I've learned before. Different herbal teas will cause different dreams, too.

valerian
mugwort

I realy like this thread.

However, I cant stress enough how amazing calea is. There is realy nothing like it that comes close in western herbology. Mugwort doesnt come close. You realy have to experience it for yourself.

The shamans of the americas had some powerfull medicines that were often not shared with us westerners. Its realy a shame since they in many ways had a much deeper understanding of natural healing then is typical of western culture.

mad props on the dream journal, I do the same. Again, it's a way of training your mind to become more aware of the dream and waking worlds. This is something a lot of western societies have lost...their dreams. I believe dreams are profound teachers, and to help balance your intelligence and emotion, you must (well not must, that sounds too dogmatic) bring the dream and waking world together. Also, I'd like to add that we dream a lot more than we think, it's not just something to pass the time while we sleep. Dreams are creations. Creations of realities. In order for someone to begin meta-programming, they must (again with the "must", I apologize) create their own reality from chaos.

Artemisia vulgaris:
Being a Western Herbalist, I've heard a lot about Mugwort for dreaming. Mugwort makes a great dreamers tea, but also Mugwort under the pillow is helpful in promoting lucid dreaming. Know that Mugwort is used to regulate menstruation among other women's health treatments.
The Miwok (CA Natives) used Mugwort to prevent dreaming of the dead....
The best lucid dreaming method for me is a dream journal. Before bed, I write anything and everything on my mind. Maybe one page. The first thing I do when I wake up is write everything on my mind again. Within a few weeks, the mind and memory begin to work together.... see what happens....
In love and light....

Looking at your hands is kinda like a trigger and stabalizer. Throughout your waking life, take as many opportunities to look at your hands and ask yourself, "Am I awake, or am I Dreaming?" Keep training yourself like that. Pretty soon, you'll be looking at your hands and realize you're dreaming. Now you've become lucid, keep concentrating on your hand so you don't get too excited and wake yourself up. Now start flying around and dream of big-breasted women :)

Also, Carlos Casteneda says that when in the dream state, when you realise that you're dreaming, that's when you can lucid dream. So make a point to become aware that you're dreaming. Then, according to Carlos, make an effort to look at your hands in the dream. It takes practice. Then you can do anything you want. Good luck.

Calea doesnt realy have a very strong effect while you are awake, but once you fall asleep the dreams are powerfull.

I had one experience where I dreamed of real life events that happened 50 years ealier, and after doing some research they described actual events that took place which at the time I had no knoledge of.

I've never heard of using herbs to facilitate the lucid dream state. I will do research into the herbs a couple of you recommended. Most of my Lucid dreams take place when I am absolutely sober before bed. Actually most of my best dreams period, happen when I have not ingested anything - marijuana in particular. Interesting. More thoughts please!!

Nothing realy works as powerfully as Calea zacatechichi, though often people wake up seeing phantasms, and while it produces more vivid dreams, learning to control your dreams or enter "lucid dreaming" is entirely diferent.

Calea is definitly a tool, and can open you up to new things, but learning to control your dreaming requires active participation.

There are some flower essences that could aid in Lucid Dreaming, but your intent is just as powerful.

Try this exercise! Before you go to sleep ask yourself a question that you would want to be answered in your dreams. Repeat this question over & over in your head until you fall asleep. When you wake up and recall your dream, in some way it should answer the question or even give a feeling that will resonate with the answer.

You see, lucid dreaming is all about strengthening your awareness so that you are consciously awake in the dream state.

If you use a mild seditive like chamomile it might help, however stronger sleep inducers like clove should be avoided.

There are many different ways that I know of. Calea zacatechichi is a fascinating herb that encourages dreaming, helps in remembering dreams, and can induce lucid dreams. I recommend reading up on it at Erowid.org:

http://www.erowid.org/plants/calea_zacatechichi/

In fact, do research on lucid dreams before you go to sleep, and you have a greater chance of becoming lucid.

Also, peanut butter and pickles. It sounds weird, but it has worked for me and a friend of mine on several different occasions.

Have fun in the dream world, as well as the waking. Let me know how it works out, and which ones help out.

Hey all! I'm new to this tribe and I've recently been getting serious about lucid dreaming. Does anyone know of some good aids that I can drink/smoke/ingest to help enhance my experience?
